I wanted to read and review this book because sleep is such an integral and essential part of life that many of us tend to ignore the importance of. Although people from every walk of life tend to have issues with sleep I know that those of us in the culinary and hospitality fields, in general, tend to have issues with it regularly. This may mainly be from the long odd hours that we keep but I feel there is a lot more to it. Considering I have always struggled with sleep I tend to read everything and anything I can get my hands on about the subject. This book however really was one of the most thorough and well written of all the books I have read. I am posting this review in hopes that others who struggle with sleep may see it and get some incite and help from this book.
My review of The sleep revolution by Arianna Huffington:
Thorough and easy to read!
This is not the first book that I have read on sleep and the effects of sleep deprivation but this was the most thorough and best-written book on the subject and also the most helpful. The author Arianna Huffington gets your attention from the start by opening up her own life experiences with sleep issues and showing you that she is not just writing about the subject but has lived through it. She understands how it feels and that shows throughout the book. Her explanations of the science behind the problem is well written and easy to follow as is her writing on sleep disorders. She explains the problems and then goes on to give you great ways to overcome it, showing multiple things you can do, not just to get over the issue but to help all along the way.
I both appreciated and found comfort in they way she addressed the issue of sleep and how important and relevant it is, how huge a negative effect lack of sleep can have and how beneficial a good night’s sleep is.
Many who do not suffer from sleep disorders do not understand the great effect it has and I think it is often thought of almost as a minor issue when in reality it affects not just the person but all those who have contact with them. This is a must read for anyone who has a sleep issue as well as for anyone who has a loved one with sleep issues. In my opinion, this book is truly for everyone.
